Free Medical Camps During Devastating Floods

OPL Holds Free Medical Camps During Devastating Floods of 2010

The 2010 Pakistan floods began in late July 2010, resulting from heavy monsoon rains in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan regions of Pakistan and were the worst in the history of the country. Approximately one-fifth of Pakistan's total land area was under water - approximately 796,095 square kilometres – or an area larger than England. According to an estimate the floods directly affected about 20 million people, mostly by destruction of property, livelihood and infrastructure, with a death toll of close to 2,000.

There was spread of waterborne diseases including gastroenteritis, and skin diseases due to unhygienic conditions adding to the misery of the affected people.

Otsuka Pakistan Limited contributed to the noble cause of nation building and was engaged in relief work for the devastated people. Under the banner of Otsuka Welfare Clinic many medical camps were established in different areas of KPK including Peshawar, Charsadda, and Nowshera with the help of Otsuka field staff and local elders.

More than two thousand patients were provided free medical treatment as well as free medicines during these camps.
