Such conditions include surgery, infections, trauma, burns, prolonged disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, protein deficiency, preparation of patients for surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, prolonged coma or refusal to eat.
Dosage and Administration

Generally, proteins are provided in a daily dose of 0.8-1.0 g/kg for maintenance and 1.2-2.0 g/kg in catabolic states. The usual adult dosage of Aminovel 600 is 500 ml via intravenous infusion over 4-6 hours (20-30 drops/min). The dosage may be adjusted according to the patient’s condition, body weight, and age. The infusion rate should be slowed in elderly and severely ill patients.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the preparation. Hereditary fructose intolerance, hepatic coma, azotemia, congestive cardiac failure, severe acidosis and disturbances of amino acid metabolism.

Precautions

Aminovel 600 should be administered with care in patients with severe hepatic and renal disorders, diabetes mellitus and in elderly. Care is required in patients with reduced urine output due to high potassium content. It should be used in pregnant patients after careful assessment and only if the therapeutic benefits outweigh any potential risks associated with the treatment.

Adverse Events

Hypersensitivity, chest discomfort and palpitations may occur. Occasionally nausea, vomiting and phlebitis may occur.

Packaging

Aminovel is now available in a 500mL plastic bottle securely packaged in a high-quality aluminum foil bag. Oxygen absorber is also provided in each bottle which eliminates the chances of Amino acids oxidation.
